We got to choose how it was going to look7/12/2018

Jagex have stamped a peculiar market onto Runescape's grim fairy tale setting over the course of its 16 years. It is a medieval fantasy realm that spans a massive number of RuneScape gold cultures and environments, but it also excels in steampunk and modern-day influences. In large part, that is as it's a world that is grown by way of hundreds of small content updates, the majority of which were alterations to existing locales.

Jagex seldom get to flex their artistic muscle with a blank space. What we knew of Menaphos was restricted within the low-res stone walls at its boundaries - nothing else existed outside the trollish gates, which players can walk up to, but not traveling beyond. For the first time, Jagex was operating with some of that empty space, producing articles for the Menaphos upgrade from scratch rather than building it along with a town that existed.

We got to choose how it was going to look and that has been lots of fun throughout the pre-production phase." The appearance and tone they settled on is unquestionably very Runescape, a blend of ancient Egyptian architecture and lush, cartoonish blobs of color and life more reminiscent of modern-day Marrakesh. A glance of the crucial artwork tells you everything you want to understand: you are getting a desert area; you are becoming that Indiana Jones, matinee display vibe; you know there's going to be exploration, adventure, love, and political intrigue.

Visually, it is one of the most striking settings in the game, a whole breath of fresh air that is different from the major desert configurations like Al Kharid, Nardah, and Pollnivneach.

It's also among the biggest updates because Jagex switched Runescape from a browser-based game to NXT, the downloadable client that launched in 2016. Menaphos is something of a reveal in terms of what's possible with the new client: the Golden City is gorgeous. Volumetric light and new water effects give Menaphos buy RS gold a utopian feel. But this isn't Al Kharid. Just as NXT has helped decorate present match areas, it is nothing in comparison to the splendour and opulence Jagex have managed to eke from Menaphos.
