Xiaomi Mi6 is supposedly going to be the first smartphone made by a Chinese company to sport Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 chipset, which was just detailed at CES. The next non-phablet Xiaomi flagship device will reportedly look like a smaller Xiaomi Mi Note 2, while its official announcement could take place on February 6. Xiaomi Mi 6 is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 835, which was officially announced earlier this week and is expected to power a whole host of devices this year, including Samsung’s much-anticipated offering, the Samsung Galaxy S8. The new chipset will come with an integrated octa-core CPU and the Adreno 540 GPU, both of which are said to deliver performances that are much above Qualcomm’s current Snapdragon 821-series chips that power many of today’s most premium and high-performance handsets.
The best AnTuTu score for a phone powered by the Snapdragon 821 was achieved by the OnePlus 3T, but that's a measly 163,578, nowhere near the Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus. Obviously benchmark results never tell the full story regarding any smartphone, but it does look like the Snapdragon 835 will be a massive improvement overall compared to its predecessor.
On the software side of things, the Mi 6 is expected to ship with MIUI 9 running on top of Android 7.1 Nougat, which is certainly good news for potential buyers. Either way, with the futuristic Xiaomi Mi MIX phablet currently making waves in China, Xiaomi will be hoping that the Mi 6 will be able to sustain that momentum and help it regain the top spot on the sales charts in its home country.
