Although you can clean up working your way down, you would do well to do so without cross-contamination of previous surfaces. You should also sanitize the freezer as well when you’re done cleaning. Make sure you clean the rubber gasket to prevent mold from forming.

Nothing can be more unpleasant to the nose and sight than a pile of moldy vegetables at the bottom of the fridge. You can also remove grease by cutting it with vinegar, allowing you to break through the fat and clean the entire fridge without making it too difficult.
