There’s a sense of maturity and grown-up-ness when it comes to foundation. Glitter eye shadow, coloured eyeliner, shimmery highlighter? That reads as fun. But foundation’s daunting reputation needs to be diffused, and learning how to do it in a minimal amount of time means that it can be easily added to any make-up repertoire.

1. Test the shade properly.

It’s a common misconception that dabbing foundation your hand is enough to find your perfect shade. For most people, the skin tone on your hand has had different levels of exposure to elements such as the sun, wind and other skincare products and cannot be an accurate indication. When selecting a foundation, be sure to take the time to check it on your face (where you’ll actually be using it). If you’re unsure, go outside and check it in natural light. You should aim for a light coverage to even out skin tone, not for foundation that changes the colour and texture of your skin.

2. Know your tools.

Keep in mind that there’s no right or wrong when it comes to application and knowing which options at your disposal are the best for your needs, will shave minutes off your regime. The warmth from your fingers can make foundation softer and more pliable, allowing it to blend smoothly into the skin, while trickier areas should be targeted by specialised tools (read: sponges and applicators), for swift and easy application. Having done the groundwork for you Clinique’s newest formula, the 2-in-1 Beyond Perfecting Foundation and Concealer allows for fast, controlled and smooth application by way of its doe-shaped applicator.

3. Learn control.

Foundation can often be seen as ageing when it’s applied too heavily. Always remember it’s easier to add make-up, but a lot more difficult to lessen the effect. For this reason it's important to know where the product is most essential (need camouflage for redness or just a little evening out of the T-zone?) and how to build the product. Having greater control over your foundation can save re-applying time and ensure fuller-coverage and longer-wear.Read more at:www.sheindress.co.uk/bridesmaid-dresses
