• 31/8/2022 - The role of dental x-rays, is it safe?

Do you want to see a complete picture of your dental health? The best option for you is dental X-rays. These X-rays are a valuable diagnostic tool that dentists use to get a clear image of the mouth, including the gums. Radiographs are also known as dental X-rays. They use low doses to radiation to help your dentist detect problems early. This can prevent more costly and complicated treatments later.

Different types of X-rays
1.There are two types of dental Xrays.
The most popular type of Xray, intraoral Xrays are those that place Xray film inside the teeth. They allow dentists to check for cavities, check the health and bone surrounding teeth, and assess the development of new teeth.
Extraoral Xrays can be taken using the Xray film outside the mouth. This type of X-ray focuses on your skull and jaw.

2.Common dental X-rays:
Bitewing: This is used to check for cavities in the back teeth. Patients must gently bite down on small packets of dental film or a digital dental sensor.
Periapical: Captures images of up to three teeth at once and focuses on the roots and bone surrounding them.
Panoramic: The machine rotates around the patient to capture images of the jaw bones and teeth.
Cone Beam CT: 3D imaging allows dentists to view the jaws, teeth and surrounding anatomy.

Who can dental X-rays be used for?
The short answer is: Everyone! Dentists can use dental X-rays to detect various health problems in children and adults.

Adults can have their teeth X-rayed at:
*Diagnose tooth decay
*Visualize an infection on a tooth
*Determine whether there is any bone loss. This is often associated with gum disease.
*Diagnose the need for braces or dentures or any other dental procedure.
*Look out for abnormalities such as cysts or tumors

Children can have their dental X-rays taken at:
-Diagnose tooth decay
-Monitor erupting teeth in younger children
-Check wisdom teeth development
-Check for abnormalities such as cysts or tumors

Dental X-ray safety
X-rays are often based on the individual's oral health and risk of developing dental disease. These X-rays can be used to help dentists decide the best treatment options, and prevent unnecessary procedures.
Dentists and staff can minimize radiation exposure when dental X-rays become necessary. Modern technology and digital imaging expose patients to less radiation than the sun's natural radiation exposure every day. This gives you the comfort of knowing that your safety is assured.
Before you have a dental Xray, don't be afraid to ask any questions about your safety. Your dentist should be able provide details on ways they can reduce radiation exposure. You should also know that dental Xrays are safe for pregnant women. The risk of radiation exposure is low and the body's exposure to it is limited to the head, there are very few risks. It is recommended that patients consult their dentist and doctor before they go to the dentist. This will ensure that both child and patient are protected.
Dental X-rays can be used to prevent problems and protect your overall health. Talk to your dentist during your next appointment for more information (Dental Portable X-ray Machine).

Dental instruments are required for many procedures. High speed handpieces and ultrasonic scaler as well as air polishers are all examples of tools that can produce large quantities of aerosol droplets. These aerosols are tiny particles that can remain suspended in air for long periods. Research shows that even if the assistant and dentist are wearing PPE, they still have a risk of being exposed for as long as 30 minutes after an aerosol generation procedure. Because airborne droplets can persist in the air, it is possible to cause serious injuries. Aerosol droplets can travel up 20 feet. Patients in adjoining rooms and the dental team are also at risk.
Dental aerosols can cause infection and contamination in many ways. They can transmit bacteria and viruses, blood and other harmful microorganisms. Infected dental sprays can transmit respiratory illnesses such as Sinusitis (influenza), Pneumonia and Tuberculosis (SARS), and even Covid-19. Aerosol-producing procedures can lead to a fourfold increase of bacteria, according to studies.
Dental professionals are now looking at ways to eliminate or reduce aerosol-based contamination in order to mitigate the risk of infection. While dentists practice "universal precautions", assuming that all patients can have disease, the Covid-19 Pandemic has reshaped the way they work. It is similar to the time when HIV was a significant concern in dentistry in the 1980's and 1990's.
Dental professionals are investing in office filtration systems, intra-oral suctions devices, waterline disinfection and filtration systems, PPE and office filtration. Because of its innovative technology and applications, extra oral aerosol sucking equipment has become a highly sought after piece of equipment.

How does it work?
Greeloy GS-1100 is designed to use a Six Stage filtration system. It absorbs aerosol droplets from the unit by entering a Pre-filter stage. This is the area where the largest droplets of aerosol will be absorbed. The second filter is a moisture-absorbing filter. An UltraHEPAH13 filter captures smaller particles. The activated carbon absorbs the aerosol particles once they have passed through the HEPA filter. This will reduce any odors. Greeloy GS/E1000 includes UV-C lamps which are germicidal and can effectively kill any dangerous microorganisms.

How Dental professionals will adapt
All dental professionals will need to adapt to changing guidelines and equipment in order to provide excellent patient care. This is similar to what happened to dentists when they were introduced to sterilization guidelines in the 1980s. Every day, health care professionals are learning more about Covid-19's spread and how to protect staff and patients. OSHA recommends using a combination standard precautions and contact precautions.
The GREELOY GS–E1000 aerosol suction unit has the highest quality suction. It cleans the operatory air thoroughly and reduces the spread of contamination. Sandra Lender, a Massachusetts dentist who uses the GREELOY GS-1100, says that "The XT model captures aerosols beautifully and does exactly what it is supposed to." It creates a healthier environment that is more conducive to staff and patients, which I intend to continue using even after the pandemic. A GREELOY GS-1100 aerosol scavenger will be a benefit to dental practices and other major medical facilities globally. Infection control precautions are a constant challenge for the dental industry. Dental practices have been thriving over the past few months thanks to modern technology and equipment. GREELOY GS–E1000 is still being used by dental professionals. This will be in line with the CDC and ADA updates to make patient care safer.
